The consortium organized and financed the MAGNET program that is operated in the Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) of the Israeli Ministry of Industry, Trade & Labor.
The consortium includes 8 industrial companies (Given Imaging, Medigus, ASI, Glycomindes, Nanomotion, Rafael, Alomone Labs,TowerJazz ), 9 research groups from 6 different academic institutions (Tel-Aviv University, The Hebrew University, Bar Ilan University and the Technion), Hadassah Medical Center and the Center for Advanced Technologies in Sheba Medical Center.
The purpose of this consortium is to transfer knowledge from the academy to the industry, and to apply the knowledge accumulated by the industry from other fields, such as advanced military applications, on medical applications. Mainly the consortium wants to integrate all the discrete subjects to useful applications and create integrated technologies with synergic value, which will give new advanced medical solutions that don't exist in the market today, and overcome the technological gaps in the process.
The strength of this consortium is its unique partnership mix. The close and intimate cooperation with the medical environment and the clinic experts makes the integrating process of the industrial companies, that didn't deal with the medical market yet, extremely easier, by filling up the missing knowledge of these companies (regulations, FDA requirements, adjustment to in-vivo environment etc.) and focusing their R&D efforts toward the real needs. On the other hand, this cooperation enables the industrial partners to implement ideas accumulated by the "non productive" clinical side. That is why we can expect maximal effectiveness in the consortiums' operation and valuable useful practical results. The availability of the medical center facilities, patients and physicians enables proper understanding of the health system needs and satisfying solution can be checked promptly in the final "battle field", and improved according to the data and feedback from the users. The next sketch described the integration of the consortiums' participant.
The consortium is also supported by respected professional advisors, with no conflict of interest, that enrich the consortiums members and management with their opinion.
The consortium will produce 2 technological prototypes; a "smart" endoscope and an advanced video capsule, in which the developed technologies will be implanted.
